Day of the Night | Under the Starry Sky of Nibiischii

As part of the third edition of Day of the Night in Quebec, the Nibiischii Society, in collaboration with the Chibougamau Astronomy Club, is proud to present the event ‘Under the Starry Sky of Nibiischii’. For the very first time, this grand celebration of the night is coming to our region! Located in Eeyou Istchee and virtually free from light pollution, the Waconichi Observatory offers an exceptional setting in which to admire the purity of the starry sky. Whether you’re with your family, an astronomy enthusiast or simply curious, join us for a unique and unifying experience. Throughout the evening, our hosts will be on hand to discuss various topics related to astronomy, the night-time environment and the preservation of our skies. You’ll also have the privilege of observing fascinating celestial phenomena through a professional telescope.

Practical information
Date: Saturday 10 October 2026 at 7:00 pm. In the event of cloud cover or bad weather, the event will take place indoors (venue to be confirmed)
Venue: Waconichi Observatory. To get there, head to kilometre 4 of the Route du Nord of Route 167, then follow the access road for 7 kilometres to reach the astronomical observatory car park directly.
To ensure you’re comfortable during the evening, we suggest you bring warm clothing, a blanket, a head torch and a folding chair.
