Registration is compulsory here: https://www.sbmnature.org/fr/autres-activites/register/semaine-des-sciences-fresque-de-la-biodiversite/95249

The Société de biologie de Montréal invites you to a discussion on the loss of biodiversity through a collaborative game, ‘The Biodiversity Mural’. This activity, developed in Europe, is being organised in Quebec by the organisation Ateliers pour la biodiversité
Using a set of 39 illustrated cards and commentary drawn from the work of IPBES (the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services), the activity is aimed at anyone wishing to gain a better understanding of the systemic nature of biodiversity and the challenges involved in preserving and restoring ecosystems. It also aims to encourage collaborative discussion on practical solutions.

The program consists of four main stages:
1) an introductory ‘snack session’ illustrating examples of disturbances to an ecosystem;
2) the creation of the mural, which is divided into six stages of production and synthesis;
3) the creative phase, during which participants are invited to ‘decorate’ their artwork; and
4) a discussion on possible actions.

Game duration: approximately three hours

The presenter, Luc Renaud, is a member of the Société de biologie de Montréal (SBM) and is interested in issues relating to climate change and the environment. He will be assisted by Marc Rainville, a member of the SBM’s Board of Directors.

Meet at the Biological Sciences Pavilion in the Pierre-Dansereau Science Complex at UQAM (Place-des-Arts metro station).
