Astronomy | The Day of Night
A day and evening of talks and stargazing in Saint-Étienne-des-Grès in the Mauricie region
A range of free activities for the whole family, set in the heart of the countryside in a peaceful and pleasant setting.
Programme:
– 2:00 pm: Observing the Sun through solar telescopes. Volunteers from the Jupiter Astronomy Club will help you discover our star in all its splendour, while ensuring your safety.
– 4:00 pm: Presentation on living organisms that produce light and on the importance of darkness for these organisms and for nature, by Véronique Cloutier, PhD in Biology, a specialist in fungi
– 4:45 pm to 6:15 pm: Lunch break. Please bring your own picnic. Picnic tables are available under a large marquee.
– 6:15 pm Quiz on light pollution: its effects on health and biodiversity, and how we can reduce it, led by Julie Verreault, member of le Comité sur la pollution lumineuse Mauricie
– 7:00 pm Introductory presentation on astronomy and the night sky on 10 October, by Thomas Collin, amateur astronomer and experienced science communicator from the Jupiter Club
– 7:45 pm to 11 pm: Stargazing and planet-spotting. Volunteers from le Club d’astronomie Jupiter de Trois-Rivières will help you discover our starry sky and the planets of our solar system. Hot chocolate provided by the town of Saint-Étienne.
Come and find out more about the wonderful hobby of astronomy. No experience or equipment required. Everyone aged 2 to 112 is welcome.
This day of activities is organised in partnership with le Comité sur la pollution lumineuse Mauricie, Druide Sylvestre, le Club d’astronomie Jupiter de Trois-Rivières, the Environmental Advisory Committee of the town of Saint-Étienne-des-Grès, the municipality of Saint-Étienne-des-Grès and its Leisure Association.
