Author Talk with Briony Penn: The Seabird Trials

Award-winning writer, naturalist and environmental activist, Briony Penn, will discuss her new book, Seabird Trials: How A Scientist Took Big Oil to Court and Won. At a time when scientists are increasingly questioned and silenced, Penn will share stories of resilience and restoration both by the seabirds themselves after one of the deadliest oil spills in the Pacific, and by those entrusted with their protection.

Penn will be in conversation with Louise Blight, author of Where the Earth Meets the Sky: a Story of Penguins, People, and Place in Antarctica.

Learn how oil spills and climate change have impacted even the wildest, most remote corners of the earth by the industries that benefit, and the extraordinary lengths people who love the natural world will go to protect it—against all odds.

Presented as part of Women’s History Month and Science Literacy Week, and as part of TPL’s environmental program series, Our Fragile Planet, supported by Friends of Toronto Public Library, South Chapter.
